Healthy Business
Responsible growth
Our strategy
Our aim is to become the leading most sustainable producer of salmon in Scotland. We have a substantial investment programme over the next five years to strengthen, grow and transform our business.
Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS)
Fundamental to our investment programme is our
development of innovative recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS).
This technology
gives us greater control of the freshwater rearing environment, which supports
the health and welfare of our salmon. Their time in freshwater is increased,
producing larger smolts and reducing the marine cycle to about one year.
The first of these sustainable RAS facilities can be found on the Applecross peninsular in
the Highlands, it will be the largest, most sustainable of its kind in
Scotland.
The benefits of RAS are far-reaching:
Our salmon - Greater control of the freshwater rearing environment supports the health and wellbeing of our salmon and by reducing marine time from 18 months to 10-12 months, which in turn reduces the biological risk.
Our customers - Improving quality and consistency.
Our environment - Lessening our impact on the natural environment by reducing waste, using locally produced sustainable energy and reducing water usage through recirculation.
Our communities - The project will create around 30 rural jobs. We're also investing in housing in this remote area and use local suppliers where possible.
