Unique Native Hebridean shortlisted for top international award

Native Hebridean Smoked Scottish Salmon has been nominated for a coveted international food award.

The Scottish Salmon Company’s (SSC) Native Hebridean Smoked Scottish Salmon is one of four finalists in the 2022 Seafood Excellence Awards.

The premium product is competing for the award of ‘Best New Foodservice Product’, which recognises product leaders in the North American seafood market.

The judging will take place at Seafood Expo North America/Seafood Processing North America in Boston on Sunday 13 March.

Native Hebridean is prized internationally by leading chefs, restaurateurs and hoteliers for its firm texture and delicate taste of the Hebrides.

Native Hebridean is a unique strain of Scottish Salmon, originally bred from wild Hebridean Salmon in North Uist and reared exclusively and fully traceable to the remote waters of the Hebridean islands and West Coast of Scotland.

Using a ‘Traditional Island Recipe’, fresh fillets are hand cured at SSC’s Harris & Lewis Smokehouse on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. Native Hebridean is then gently smoked in a traditional pebble-lined kiln using wood shavings of aged Scotch whisky barrels for a deliciously aromatic and distinctive taste of the Hebrides.

The prestigious nomination comes after acclaimed Chef Jack Stein picked Native Hebridean Smoked Scottish Salmon as his winner for the Great British Food Awards 2021, describing it as “the perfect smoked salmon”.

Su Cox, Communications and Business Development director at The Scottish Salmon Company, said:

“Native Hebridean is truly unique and this nomination is further recognition of how the product is highly prized by top chefs and the hospitality trade.

“Our Native Hebridean Smoked Salmon offers the discerning consumer a truly Scottish delicacy with unique heritage and is fully traceable to the Hebridean islands and West Coast of Scotland. It is truly our Hebridean hero!”

All the finalists’ products, as well as other new products submitted to the competition, will be showcased in the New Product Showcase throughout the three-day exposition in Boston.

The Seafood Excellence Awards serve as the North American extension of the Seafood Excellence Global Awards competition, which will take place at Seafood Expo Global in Barcelona, Spain.

SSC, part of the Bakkafrost Group, is exhibiting at the Seafood Expo North America in Boston from 13-15 March 2022, stand #2105.
