GSI Members Visit Bakkafrost Scotland’s Strondoir Bay Site

Members of the Global Salmon Initiative (GSI) recently visited Bakkafrost Scotland’s Strondoir Bay site in Loch Fyne.

The visit provided GSI members with the opportunity to experience the day-to-day operations of salmon farming while learning more about welfare practices.

GSI is a global leadership initiative established by salmon farming CEOs committed to driving continuous improvements in sustainability and fish welfare. The organisation’s goal is to provide climate-resilient food with the highest nutritional value and the lowest environmental footprint for generations to come.

A GSI spokesperson commented:
“By stepping out of the formal setting and into the field, the group was able to put theory into practice and see first-hand how farms in Scotland are continuously improving their operations. From utilising cutting-edge technology to ensuring the highest welfare standards, these efforts ultimately mean raising salmon that are better for people and the planet.”
