Cowal Highland Gathering

Cowal Highland Gathering

Renowned around the globe, the Cowal Gathering is a celebration of traditional Highland festivities. This past summer was cause for a dual celebration, with the event reaching its 130th anniversary, and Bakkafrost Scotland marking tens consecutive years as title sponsor.

The sun shone on a spectacular weekend of live music, dance, athletics and family activities. This year’s games saw thousands of domestic and international visitors flock to Dunoon for a piece of the action. Among them were more than 250 Bakkafrost Scotland team members.

The World Highland Dancing Championships and Cowal Pipe band Championship are a celebration of Scotland’s rich musical culture, with dancers travelling from all over the world to compete for a coveted Cowal medal. The country’s best pipers competed in both band and solo piping categories.

The Cowal International Championship is the only international heavy athletics competition in the country, and the event saw competitors tackle a variety of challenges including caber tossing, hammer throwing and a shot-putt using the Cowal stone – twice the weight of a regular putt.

Our food demonstration was on hand to feed attendees and competitors alike, as chef Cat Frankitti presented a selection of delicious recipes using our Native Hebridean salmon. With such a rich selection of activities to enjoy, it is no surprise the games have been dubbed “Scotland in one weekend”.

Events like the Cowal Gathering are important celebrations of culture and community, and our sponsorship is driven by commitment to those values. We strive to play an active role in the rural areas which many of our team members live and work in, continuing our support of local initiatives to strengthen communities across the country.
