Bakkafrost Scotland makes a splash as headline sponsor for the Lochcarron Highland Games

Damp conditions didn’t deter competitors and spectators at the Lochcarron Highland Games that took place on Saturday 20 July.

The 44th edition of the ‘Friendly Games’ attracted a record number of athletes taking part, with attendees flying in from all over the world.

With Bakkafrost Scotland returning as the headline sponsor for the sixth consecutive year, the games featured a celebration of Scottish sports, dance, music and drawing.

Visitors came together to experience a blend of traditional ‘heavy’ events like hammer throwing and caber tossing, alongside track and field competitions, highland dancing performances, and piping displays.

Iain MacIntyre, marine director at Bakkafrost Scotland, said:

“We are delighted to have continued our sponsorship for the sixth consecutive year.

“We extend our congratulations to all the participants and the team of volunteers for their hard work in making this event a success once again.”

Joanna Macpherson, chair of Lochcarron Highland Games, said: “We are pleased to say that this year’s games saw a record number of athletes taking part.

“In our ‘Heavy Events’ elite athletes showcased their strength, determination and skill through classic challenges such as hurling the hammer, throwing the shot, and tossing the caber.

“A notable highlight was also the participation of a Heavy athlete who travelled from Arizona to compete.

“The Hill Race saw a historic high with 83 entries, surpassing previous records.

“The Clan Matheson Reunion attracted over 150 participants from around the world, including members from Norway, New Zealand, Australia, and the USA.

“The Isle of Skye Pipe Band delivered an exceptional performance, contributing to the vibrant atmosphere of the games.

“Thanks again to Bakkafrost Scotland for their generous support. The delicious salmon provided by Bakkafrost Scotland, fed many of our volunteers and raised funds too. It was sold out completely.”
