Bakkafrost Scotland brings spirit of Christmas to community

Plans for the 2026 community Christmas lunch on the Isle of Gigha are well underway following the success of this year’s gathering, which saw local pensioners celebrate the festive season in style.

Held in Gigha village hall, the sumptuous meal was funded by Bakkafrost Scotland and brought together residents from all over the island.

Organiser Hannah Storie was awarded support for the event from the salmon producers Community Fund, an initiative which supports a wide variety of local causes in rural areas throughout the country.

Hannah said: “The Christmas lunch is a real highlight of the year for the community, so we’re very grateful to Bakkafrost Scotland for their support.

“Everyone banded together to prepare and serve the food, with local carers and nurses delivering meals to those who chose to eat at home.

“The day was a real testament to the strong community spirit here on Gigha, and we’re already planning the next event.”

Bakkafrost Scotland actively engages with the communities where its employees live and work through its community charter. Appointed community ambassadors serve as key points of contact between the organisation and local residents.

Craig Johnstone, Marine Site Manager and Bakkafrost Scotland Community Ambassador at Gigha, said: “We’re passionate about investing in communities at Bakkafrost Scotland, and the Gigha Christmas lunch is an excellent example of the sort of community spirit and wellbeing that we hope to foster.”
